In my mind, art evokes thinking in a different realm that is not totally linear. A synthesis of dreams, symbols and the physically real, my art does not always make a direct statement because it is through my mind's eye that life is absorbed and reflected.
Some of the images come from stream of consciousness markings that emerge and evolve into form. As the working process continues, images may take shape, be obscured and re-emerge. In this way the work is formed rather than constructed.
Drawing and painting in this subjective manner keeps me in touch with filtered memories in a more primal and less self-conscious way. This seems to me an honest way of working – using a materially tangible, earthy media to access an intangible consciousness.
